Rating: ★★★★
Hey everyone! It feels so great to be here writing reviews now that I'm on winter break from school. I've been so busy with my schoolwork over the past few weeks, I've hardly had time to read.
With that being said, I have allowed myself to spend some time reading, even when I should have been studying for my exams. And as much as I hate to admit it, I spent a few hours the night before one of my big exams reading this new gem by Morgan Elizabeth. I went into this book fresh off of a reading slump, and was pleasantly surpised by how much I enjoyed it.
Though I normally hate books where the main character is lying about their identity due to the anxiety it gives me, I absolutely fell in love with this one.
When Abbie Keller gets dumped by her longtime boyfriend on Halloween for not being "serious" enough for him, her and her best friends decide she needs to get revenge. And what better way to do that then seducing his boss and getting a coveted invite to the office Christmas party he'd never taken her to?
This book is Legally Blonde meets holiday romance in the best way possible. It's absolutely swoon-worthy, featuring an overprotective, extremely affectionate, male main character who falls first. Damion is willing to help Abbie unlearn all of the things her ex made her believe she had to be, and repair her idea of love. What else can I say? This book was absolutely addicting.
I will warn you though, if you are not a fan of insta-love, this might not be the one for you. Damien falls almost immediately, and their relationship moves at pretty much warp speed. This did cause the book to be unrealistic at times seeing as Damien could do no wrong. He was utter perfection in all situations. But I suppose that's what a book boyfriend is supposed to be.
Abbie was a fairly likeable main character, but I often struggled to get past her using such a nice guy, and not telling him the truth. She did try, but I always felt as if she should have done more, especially given how far their relationship was progressing.
I liked Abbie's friends, Kat and Cami, though Cami was often projecting her past onto Abbie, and not always acting in what seemed to be her best interest. Kat was super loveable though and I enjoyed reading about the bond between the three girls.
Overall, this was a solid read, and I'd give it four stars. It was a fun and fast-paced and toward the end I struggled to put down. Though I wouldn't put it in my hall of fame, I would recommend it to any romance reader this holiday season!
