Rating: ★★★☆
I remember seeing this book on my list of recommended books from Kindle, and thinking the synopsis seemed super interesting. After it came up on my TikTok for you page a few times, I finally decided to give it a try. And overall, I enjoyed it.
After years of living in fear due to trauma in her past, Grace is ready to try new things. Maybe she'll get a tattoo. Go to a party. Start dating?
Cal is a tattoo shop owner with no interest in a relationship. With an alcoholic mom and four-year-old little sister, Cal needs to make sure he can be there for his sister at all times.
But what happens when the two of them spark an unlikely friendship, and it begins to bloom into something more?
The Brightest Light of Sunshine was a really fun read! At times it did feel like the story was a bit immature, but this was still a very fun and wholesome read. It did throw me off that Cal, the male main character, was thirty and still seemed to act fairly juvenile. He also attended frat parties with twenty-two years olds, which was slightly concerning. However, I did really love his and Grace's relationship, so I was more or less able to look past it.
There were also a ton of sweet moments between Cal and Grace, especially as their relationship progressed from friends to lovers. He was always incredibly supportive, even before their relationship turned romantic.
Another great aspect of this book was the relationship between Cal and his little sister, Maddie. He is such a great big brother, and the dynamic between him, Grace, and Maddie was so adorable! This made the ending of the novel feel very satisfying.
Overall, this gets three and a half stars from me! It was a fun read, even though there were definitely a few cringe-worthy moments, and times I felt that the main characters (especially Cal) did not act their age. However, it was still super enjoyable!
