Book Review: Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods

Rating: ★★★★★

When I found out Rick Riordan was releasing a sixth Percy Jackson book, I nearly died. I don't think I have ever been more excited to read a book in my entire life. I was obsessed with the original books my entire childhood, and they are what sparked my love for reading. Annabeth and Percy are the blueprint of a perfect relationship, and I love how Riordan was able to tackle tough topics and show what teens are going through in such a beautiful way. The OG Percy Jackson books are untouchable. I was so surprised to find out we would be getting a sixth!

In this light-hearted return to the Percy Jackson series, Percy is set on attending college with his girlfriend, Annabeth, in New Rome. Unfortunately for him, he needs three letters of recommendation from various Gods, and must complete quests to do this. For his first challenge, Percy must find Zeus's cup bearer's chalice before his next feast. But will he make in time? And will Percy make it out of his quest alive?

I really loved this book. I know some people were disappointed given it didn't have as much substance as the other books, but I didn't come into this expecting it to be as action-packed or have as high stakes as the other five books. The Chalice of the Gods was such a fun return to the PJO universe. I loved seeing Annabeth, Grover and Percy together again, and I loved getting to read from Percy's POV. His voice is just as fresh and fun as I remember it being as a kid. We also got to see characters we all know and love like Sally Jackson, Poseidon and Athena!

Overall, I adored this book and I'm super excited that Rick is writing two more novels for this series. I especially loved getting to see these characters have their happy ending. They saved the world twice already, so I think they deserve a bit of time off! I definitely recommend this to any PJO fans. 100% worth the read.
