5 Feel Good Rom-Coms for Your Spring TBR

1. Funny Business by Kayley Loring

Publisher's Blurb:

Dear Ms. Hogan,

I’m emailing to offer you the job as my son’s nanny because Sam had a temper tantrum when I told him I can’t hire you to come on my stand-up tour with us. “She heckled me at a club a few years ago,” I wanted to say. “She is the sassy little turd who trolls me on Twitter,” I could have told him. “She’s an even bigger pain in the butt when we’re face-to-face,” I thought to myself. What I would never tell him is—things could get complicated. For reasons.

Let me know if you want the job.

With great reluctance,

Owen

Dear Mr. Brodie,

Thank you for your email. Please inform Sam that I like him very much and would love to be his nanny and accompany him on your terrible joke of a stand-up tour.

I can assure you—things will not get complicated. For many, many reasons.

Primarily because Owen Brodie isn’t funny, and he can suck it.

Out of financial desperation and a fondness for your son,

Frankie

My thoughts:

I loved this book! This book was sooo funny, and I loved the single-dad dynamic. Writing a rom-com about two comedians is definitely a large undertaking, seeing as both of the characters have to be funny, but Loring met the mark! Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a swoon-worthy novel with tons of laughable moments.

2. Better Than The Movies by Lynn Painter

Publisher's Blurb:

Perpetual daydreamer Liz Buxbaum gave her heart to Michael a long time ago. But her cool, aloof forever crush never really saw her before he moved away. Now that he’s back in town, Liz will do whatever it takes to get on his radar—and maybe snag him as a prom date—even befriend Wes Bennet.

The annoyingly attractive next-door neighbor might seem like a prime candidate for romantic comedy fantasies, but Wes has only been a pain in Liz’s butt since they were kids. Pranks involving frogs and decapitated lawn gnomes do not a potential boyfriend make. Yet, somehow, Wes and Michael are hitting it off, which means Wes is Liz’s in.

But as Liz and Wes scheme to get Liz noticed by Michael so she can have her magical prom moment, she’s shocked to discover that she likes being around Wes. And as they continue to grow closer, she must reexamine everything she thought she knew about love—and rethink her own ideas of what Happily Ever After should look like.

My Thoughts:

This book was so cute! One of my favorite YA novels ever. It's got the feel of a romantic comedy movie, with tons of heartfelt yet totally laughable moments. Painter is amazing at building romantic tension and crafting incredibly swoon-worthy male main characters. This is a perfect romance to lift your spirits when needed!

3. Left Field Love by CW Farnsworth

Publisher's Blurb:

Lennon Matthews has been looking forward to the end of senior year since the first day of high school. She’s sick of the stares and whispers that follow her around, of balancing staying at the top of her class with all her other responsibilities.

And she’s especially over interacting with Caleb Winters. The town golden boy who refuses to ignore her existence, no matter how hard she tries to remain invisible. The star pitcher with a bright, shiny future in front of him, very different from Lennon’s path after graduation.

But Caleb’s life isn’t as perfect as it appears. His family is fractured beneath the facade and the pressure of high expectations is constant. He had no interest in moving to the small, horse-racing-obsessed town of Landry, Kentucky, and no say in the matter either. And the one girl he’s interested in stubbornly refuses to give him the time of day.

Until persistence finally seems to shift Lennon’s perception of him. But one thing that doesn’t change as graduation creeps closer? Her insistence that their lives are too different for anything serious or lasting between them. Caleb’s professional baseball aspirations are more present than ever, and he hasn’t hidden his desire to leave Landry. Between caring for the only family she has left and managing what’s left of their farm, she’s tied to Landry with no intention of that ever changing.

Lennon has spent years eager to see Caleb leave. She’s the only reason he wants to stay. Together, they’ll have to decide what they’re willing to sacrifice. For themselves…and for each other.

My Thoughts:

This book was so swoon-worthy and adorable! I loved Caleb's devotion to Lennon, and how they were able to connect despite their perceived differences. This book was an interesting ride, given the amount of time it spans, but it was fun all the way through. I 100% recommend to anyone looking for a fun time.

4. Tutoring The Player by Rebecca Jenshak

Publisher's Blurb:

I have a type.

I love the good guy.

Responsible and stable. Safe.

So when a beer-drinking, quick-witted, tattooed hockey player asks me to tutor him, I'm suddenly thrust into the world of bad boys and bad decisions.

Jordan is a renowned player on campus.

He doesn’t take anything seriously, except hockey and partying.

But he gives me butterflies.

I’m a wallflower tutoring Valley University’s hottest player.

My Thoughts:

This book is the first in the Campus Wallflowers series by Rebecca Jenshak, which is definitely one of my favorite New Adult romance series to date! The found family aspect of this novel is so good, I love it when a romance features a good group of girl friends. The male main character was also super charismatic, and I think the main relationship was super healthy and fun. I totally recommend this book to anyone looking for a light-hearted New Adult read.

5. Only When It's Us by Chloe Liese

Publisher's Blurb:

From the moment Willa sat next to Ryder in class, she’s made it clear she hates his guts. Her reason is a mystery, but its outcome suits him fine. Willa Sutter is the feisty, tempting chaos he doesn’t need in his quiet, tidy life. She’s the next generation of women’s soccer. Wild hair. Bee-stung lips. And a temper that makes the devil seem friendly. He’ll leverage her hate as long as possible to keep his distance.

When Willa asked Ryder to borrow his lecture notes, the silent, surly, mountain man ignored her. Ryder Bergman is an arrogant, infuriating flannel-wearing enigma. Mangy beard. Frayed ball cap that hides his eyes. And a stubborn refusal to acknowledge her existence. But Willa’s never backed down from a challenge.

Forced to work together on their final project, Willa and Ryder begin a game of pranks and practical jokes, each determined to come out the champion. But once they catch unexpected feelings, victory begins to mean something else—winning each other’s hearts.

My Thoughts:

This book was so cute! I love the large family dynamic, so seeing the Bergman family throughout this novel was super fun. The banter between Willa and Ryder was also off the charts! The tension and chemistry kept me super intrigued. I also loved that this book featured a women in sports, as we definitely don't see that enough in literature today. This book was also incredibly heartfelt, with each of the characters going through their own tribulations that led them to become the people they are. But the story wraps up super nicely, and it's such an enjoyable ride.
